Mason Jar Art Hack
In this blog, I want to share a fun hack to get organized and prepare for art projects. By using mason jars and colored pencils together. This will inspire children to experiment with colored pencils and engage in more doodling. Throughout the year, I receive numerous compliments on how inviting my art classes and workshops appear. You can view many of these mason jars filled with colored pencils in the pictures on my social media. Check out my Instagram @nature.of.art.kids. I always separate and organize each mason jar with warm and cool colors. Additionally, I separate them by hues and different values of color.
Organizing In Color
- Efficiency for Artists: Quick access to colors and understanding value choices is essential for artists to create effectively.
- Inspiration and Adaptation: Exposure to different colors sparks new ideas
- Stimulating Creativity: Well-organized color pencil jars serve as a visual prompt for students
- Color Identification: Organized jars facilitate color recognition even in dim lighting conditions, ensuring artists can easily select the desired shades.
- Engaging Cleanup Process: Encouraging students to return colored pencils to their designated jars simplifies tidying. But also turns organization into a enjoyable and educational activity akin to a professional artist’s routine.
When you gather a variety of green color pencils, you’ll observe a spectrum ranging from deep forest greens to vibrant mint hues, from rich candy apple tones to subtle pale shades. This diverse selection adds depth to color choices, enabling artists to explore different values, intensities, and saturations. Working with color is not only enjoyable but also a calming activity that fosters creativity.
In my art education books such as “Kids Color Theory,” I delve into these concepts, emphasizing the importance of providing children ample opportunities to experiment with colors. Building a strong foundation in art literacy through color exploration is key. Give it a try, and rest assured, you’ll capture the attention of your students or family members, inspiring them to engage in more drawing activities!
Have a colorful week!
