Black-board Chalk Effect

By Spramani Elaun

Oh what fun this project is for kids!

Quite accidentally I discovered this black-board chalk effect which seems magical.

I was prepping to teach kids how-to-make scratch art with crayons and acrylic paint, when I reached accidentally instead for my black Ready Friendly Watercolor, what happen next was such an eye sight delight!

Beautiful bright bold colors against black instantly showed up with a fun chalk board look.

All my crayon marks popped out magically the same way colored chalk looks on a black-board.

So I quickly ran to my art studio and repeated my process and woah lá… black-board chalk effect vivid and instant!

4 supplies you will need for black-board chalk effect

Here’s the supplies you will need for this project:

You can order all these supplies on my store website separately or in a kit.

Paper – I used good quality white watercolor paper.

Crayons – I used Colour Block crayons and regular large yellow crayons. Lots of yellow in your drawings makes your picture contrast and pop better against the black watercolor paint.

Black Watercolor – I use our Ready Friendly Watercolor Finger Paint, non-toxic, safe for young kids and washable paint.

Sponge – any type of sponge will work, but I prefer using sea sponges for this project.

3  Simple Easy Steps

1.Doodle – doodle anything on white paper, I recommend showing kids how lighter colors will pop best against black paint. Avoid giving kids dark crayon colors. Stick with bright colors and plenty of yellow.

2. Paint Over Doodles – Have kids smear black watercolor all over the paper with sponge. You want to cover the whole paper up with black paint. Go right over the doodle marks too! Crayon marks will resist the black paint and you will instantly see the bright doodle marks pop out!

3. Dry – Let doodle dry and try another one!

This project is as easy as 1, 2, 3…
